BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP

The Cornwall Archaeological Society, with its roots extending back to the West Cornwall Field Club (founded in 1935) is the leading organisation for Cornwall's archaeologists, both amateur and professional.

Benefits of membership include:
    • WALKS

Every month there is an archaeological walk somewhere in Cornwall led by one of our members or an invited expert.

    • TALKS

During winter months talks are given at centres in Truro and Liskeard by speakers, national and local (and including members) who are specialists in their field of interest.

    • ACTIVITIES

The Society gives opportunities for those interested in practical archaeology to participate in fieldwork and learn archaeological techniques from experts. Members often take part in excavations run by the Society and the Cornwall County Council's Historic Environment Service (HES). The Society and the HES work in partnership and members' contribution to the work of the HES is greatly appreciated.   Recent activities have included field walking, identification of finds and registering them in the Historic Environment Register, archaeological illustration and excavation of a previously uninvestigated site.

    • JOURNAL AND NEWSLETTERS

The Society produces three Newsletters a year, which contain news of Society activities, archaeological happenings, walks, talks, meetings, symposia and special events throughout Cornwall. An important membership benefit, this 8-page, A4-sized newsletter is packed full with interesting information for everyone with a love of Cornish archaeology.

The Society's annual journal, Cornish Archaeology, is considered one of the best archaeological publications by a local society in the country. This reports on many of the archaeological happenings in Cornwall by members and others.

    • FELLOWSHIP

Meet like-minded people that share your interest in Cornwall's heritage.

Membership Application Form (120k, pdf)

The form includes a Standing Order Mandate and it is very helpful to the society if you would complete it.  For security reasons we cannot include our sort code and account number on line.  Please contact the Membership Secretary for the necessary details.

LEAVING MONEY BY WILL

Thanks to foresighted and generous benefactors we have received bequests that have enabled us to restart our excavation programme, update our materials and improve the quality of our journal.  We are absolutely dependent upon our members to keep the society vibrant and relevant to the 21st century.

Please consider leaving a bequest.

Naturally, you should consult your solicitor when making or changing a will, but the process is very simple.  For example, the following wording is suggested:

"I give ten percent of the residue of my estate (or the sum of £_____) to the Cornwall Archaeological Society of 8, Minster Fields, Manaccan, Helston TR12 6JG, (registered charity number 1055654) for its general purposes and I declare that the receipt of the honorary treasurer or other proper officer of the said Cornwall Archaeological Society for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said legacy"

Please contact the secretary if you would like any further information.
