CAS National Archaeology Week Events 12-20 July    

Lizard Fogou Day with MAG, led by James Gossip and Anna Tyacke.

Saturday 12th July morning visit to Boden, site of the CAS summer excavation and finds identification workshop.

Afternoon visit to Halligye.

Bodmin Moor Walk with Tony Blackman.

Sunday July 13th 11am-4:30pm.  A walk around Minions and Craddock Moor.  Meet at the Minions car park (west).  Contact 01872 564027

   

Helston Museum: Learn about the Lizard.

July 14th-19th inclusive from 10:30am to 12:30pm.

A display of prehistoric pottery and other artefacts not usually on display.  Handling boxes available and CAS members in attendance to help with enquiries.

Egyptian Extravaganza.

Drop in event for all the family.

Visit to Poldowrian July 20th 11am-4pm.

Visit a privately-owned archaeological museum showing finds from excavations on the site in the late 1970s, and visit the remains of the excavated Bronze Age round house at Poldowrian, near Coverack on the Lizard.

At 2:30pm a 1/2hour walk to a nearby Iron Age cliff castle.

Directions: from Helston travel on B3294 towards St. Keverne (about 10 miles).  2.5 miles before St. Keverne look for the sign on the right.  NGR SW749 168.

CAS FIELD WALKS 2008

18 MAY2008, Sunday - Adrian Rodda

Meet with Adrian at 10.30 at the National Trust Overflow car park at Trengwainton Gardens, signposted from Penzance, SW 452315.  Here we will organise car-sharing because of the limited parking at the sites.  We shall drive to Mardron Well, Lanyon Quoit and Men-an-tol car park. Then walk to Men-an-tol, men scryfa and Boskednan Circle.  Depending on the weather and time we have an option of driving and walking or walking all the way to Chun Castle and Quoit. Bring a packed lunch and the usual wet weather clothes and boots.

Saturday 21st June 2008 Bude Canal

Meet by the County Library on the lower wharf car park (pay & display) at 11.00am. Map ref 207 063 Chris Jewel from Bude Canal & Harbour Society will lead us on a walk in the morning to the sea lock at Bude and then walk to Rodds bridge to view the canal and associated structures returning to Bude for lunch. In the afternoon we will drive to Hele bridge to view the upper reaches of the canal and see a tug boat. Then we will drive to Hobbacott to see the inclined plane and on to Merrifield to the wheal pit finishing approx 4.00pm. Wear stout footwear. We can either bring a packed lunch or eat in the Falcon Hotel. If you would like to eat in the hotel please let Pam know asap so that we can book a table. It would also be helpful if we have an idea of numbers before the day so could you give me a ring or email to let me know if you intend to come. There will be a small charge of  £1per person on the day for the Canal & Harbour Society.  

   
     

Sunday 14th September 2008 Fowey (Bodinnick area)

Meet at Whitecross village hall car park (SX 140 528) One mile north east of  Boddinnick at 10.30am. for a morning walk with Val & Brian Jacob who will take us to Pont to see the industrial archaeology, Lanteglos church with its lantern cross, Hall Farm medieval chapel and  Q memorial (optional) Either bring a picnic which can be eaten,weather permitting along the Hall walk or we should be finished at 1.30 if you would like to lunch in the Ferry Inn. (Public toilets at Boddinnick by the ferry)
